From Southern California, Producer Julian Tydelski presents NAILUJ: On A Journey

On A Journey represents a back to basics approach on Dance and House music. Bypassing crazy edits and stutter effects, Julian preferred to focus on content rather than flashiness and technicality. "These are club songs that you can dance to," smiles Julian, "I think it could benefit us all in bringing back a sense of soul to this music."

"And although a staple in club records, I've gotten really bored of entire albums of perfect length intros, outros and breaks. Not every song here is necessarily DJ-friendly or following a trend, but that's okay because good DJ's don't need to rely on 12" versions or trends to create magic." Many of the tracks on the new album have a seemingly retro feel - "Yes, exactly," states Julian

The producer also decided to avoid making the record too loud so that dynamics could still be prevalent, "I have a love/hate relationship with smashed-sounding records", exclaims Julian, "I think it can help or enhance certain genres, but even in the best hands it still seems pointless to make an overly squashed-sounding House record without dynamics, that is, unless intentional. I remember the days when the production value of this music was so varied that you could have an awesome, full sounding record play next to a lightweight sounding record and It was kind of cool, sort of like vibe versus sound quality."

Julian lists David Morales, Walter Gibbons, Tee Scott, Steve "Silk" Hurley, Frankie Knuckles, Maurice Joshua, Miguel Migs as some of his favorite House and Disco remixers and DJ's but it was also DJ's Greyboy and Mark E. Quark that influenced him as well, "I learned quite a lot from those guys!"
